The Devil and Tom Walker

Tom Walker lived near Boston, Massachusetts. He was in a bad marriage. He and his wife didn't like to spend time with each other. The wife had a fierce temper and was loud. There is a story about Kidd the pirate who buried treasure under a big tree in the swamps. Tom decided he would go look for it and when he did He found a skull and a tamohawk a little under the ground. Tom picked it up and a large black man sitting on a tree stump told him to put it down. The black man offered the treasure to Tom, but he decided not to take it and went home. He told his wife about the man and the treasure. She gathered some stuff and went into the forest. She came back after a while and gathered more things and went back. She never returned and after a few days, Tom went to look for her. He saw her apron in a tree. Inside the apron were her heart and liver. The black man offered the treasure to Tom again as a deal with the devil, but Tom had to do something in return for the treasure. He must become a usherer in the town and charge high interest. There were 3 knocks on his door at work and it was the black man. He grabbed him from his horse and they rode off to the swamps..
